Away All Boats

Klar Schiff zum Gefecht

1956

Content:

World War II, on the Attack Transport U.S.S. Belinda: Captain Jebediah Hawks has to train his inexperienced crew for landing troops. In perilous fights against troops, planes and Kamikazes they have to prove their abilities.

One of his crew is Commander Quigley (Lex) who is cut by the others because of his academic education, they even think he is a coward.

In the progress of fighting they slowly learn that they were wrong. (Unfortunately Lex leaves the ship to take over his own command after about one half of the movie.)

Though I usually don't like war movies this one is pretty good. The realistic training scenes are filmed at real training manoeuvers of the U.S.Army, so they are mostly authentic. The "Belinda" and its atmosphere, too, are pretty realistic. Said to be one of the best movies about the Pacific War.

More about the real "Belinda", the "USS Fremont"

Lex' dubbing actor in this movie, Wolfgang Preiss, played together with Lex in "Die unsichtbaren Krallen des Dr. Mabuse"
