Some mobster meet in a saloon called "Hangman's Knot" and disappear into a backyard. There an unscrupulous pharmacist mixes a gas which stuns everybody who inhales it and makes him stil for a few minutes. When people come to they aren't aware of what was going on - only time passed by.
Using this gas the mobsters rob a bank by stunning all employees and clients. Only Tess who was in a phone booth where the gas can't penetrate is able to call police inspector Dick Tracy. But when the police arrives at the bank the robbers are gone.
Now an intense dragnet operation begins. What about chemist Dr. Tomic who disappeared without a trace? And what has his secretary Irma to do with it?
A trap devised by Dick Tracy doesn't work out because of an alert young ambulance driver who disturbes the whole thing by questioning the gangsters in the most inopportune moment...
Pretty well cast an played thriller with Lex in a very smal but nice role as the alert ambulance driver.
