Shortly after WW II in an American garrison a jew named Joseph Samuels is murdered in his appartment. Only evidence is a wallet which belongs to Corporal Mitchell. To make him even more first suspect Mitchell is vanished.
Sgt. Keeley not believing that Mitchell could commit a crime searches for him before the police may find him. But when they finally detect Mitchell he has no alibi for the time of the murder and he is arrested. After a second murder Captain Finlay slowly finds out the murderer's real motives...
